UWA offers a range of scholarships to prospective international students to help them pursue their impossible with the assistance of financial support. Applications are now open for a wide range of postgraduate research scholarships for International and local (domestic) students, including Research Training Program (RTP) (formerly APA), University Postgraduate Awards (UPA), prestigious University, and International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) as well as other faculty and discipline-specific scholarships.

International Masters by coursework Scholarships

Postgraduate – Coursework
The University offers a number of postgraduate coursework scholarships for high-achieving international students.

International Postgraduate Scholarships for Australian University Graduates
International students who have completed and achieved excellent results in their undergraduate degree at another Australian University may be eligible for UWA’s International Master’s by Coursework Scholarship if they enrol in an applicable degree in 2017 or 2018. This round is for commencement in the second half of 2017.

Scholarships are tenable at The University of Western Australia for up to two years for Masters by research candidates and three years for Doctoral candidates. PhD scholarships may be extended to a maximum of three and a half years. Full-Time scholarships are tax-free. 

 RTP/UPA scholarships are valued at $26,682pa (in 2017) and are awarded in all disciplines. UWA Safety-Net Top-Up Scholarships may be awarded in conjunction with RTP/UPAs, providing a total scholarship package of $29,000pa in 2017. The RTP/UPA stipend will be adjusted annually in line with the Commonwealth Department of Education indexation. The value of the UWA Safety-Net Top-Up Scholarship is at the discretion of the HDR Scholarships Committee and will also be adjusted each year, reducing as the RTP/UPA increases. The Safety-Net Top-Up program will be discontinued when the value of the RTP reaches or exceeds $29,000 per year.

FORREST RESEARCH FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
Forrest Research Foundation Scholarships are available for commencing domestic and international PhD applicants from the five Western Australian universities. Forrest Scholars receive a scholarship package comprising an Australian Postgraduate Award, or equivalent stipend valued at $26,682pa (in 2017); an accommodation allowance valued at $20,011pa (in 2017); and a relocation and research travel allowance of $13,000. Overseas Student Health Cover and tuition fees are covered for international applicants. Applicants need to apply for PhD enrolment and scholarships through iAthena, and also complete the separate online application form on the Forrest Research Foundation website: [www.forrestresearch.org.au]

ROBERT AND MAUDE GLEDDEN POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS
Robert and Maude Gledden Postgraduate Scholarships are awarded for research in applied science, more particularly relating to surveying, engineering, mining or cognate subjects ($30,000pa stipend, with $5000 overseas travel allowance). Gledden scholarships are typically awarded to PhD students enrolled in the Faculty of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences and the Faculty of Science, however applications from students with relevant research projects in other faculties will also be considered. Applicants must submit a 100 word statement explaining the relevance of their proposed research to the terms of the Gledden Trust.

 There is a single online application form to apply for scholarships and Higher Degrees by Research enrolment for 2017. Scholarship applicants do not also need to complete a separate hardcopy application form for PhD or Masters by Research enrolment, unless they are applying for a Professional Doctorate, combined PhD/ Masters Coursework degree or Masters by Thesis and Coursework degrees.
